Malanseuns Pleasure Plants was founded in 1913 by Danie Malan, just outside Pretoria on the Northern slopes of the Magaliesberg, and is still situated there today. It was started as a deciduous fruit tree nursery, with surplus fruit trees for sale to the public. In 1957, four of Danie's sons started growing ornamental plants as a complementary business, and eventually one of the sons, Jimie, became the sole owner. In time, ornamental container-grown plant developed into the main core of the business, and today, Malanseuns Pleasure Plants is a proud world leader in this field.
It was not common practice to sell plants wholesale in those days, so in order to improve distribution, several depots were opened in Pretoria and Johannesburg, South Africa. Later, Garden Centers were developed and still operate under the names of Plantpark, Plantland and
Plant Ranch. Jimie Malan always worked closely with nature and devoted his life to enhancing the environment through plants and indigenous wildlife. His distinguished achievements earned him several National Awards; Gold Medal for service to the Nursery Industry, Game Rancher of the year, Conservation Farmer of the year, and Honorary Member of the South African Nurseryman's Association.
Jimie's son Jacques Malan owns Malanseuns Pleasure Plants and the Plantland Garden Centers. Under Jacques's leadership, Malanseuns has risen to ever greater heights, not only through sound innovations and capital investment, but also as a result of continuous improvements to marketing and service delivery. Malanseuns Pleasure Plants now, more than ever, lives up the dictum 'Your reliable quality Supplier'.
Now Jacques Malan's own son Jimie Malan is now the 4th Generation Malan in charge of Malanseuns. Jimie has always been very interested in Malanseuns Nursery and has decided at a young age to make Malanseuns his career.
